Welcome to the blackitty ROAD TRIP 2001 official website! What's this trip? An 18-day (oops - now it's 21 days) solo motorcycle trip through the Western portion of the USA. The trip kicks off with the Tom Petty/Wallflowers concert in the Gorge Amphitheater (George, Washington) May 12th. From there I head south and east to Idaho, down through Utah and New Mexico, then west to Los Angeles and back north again along the coast road through San Francisco and into Oregon. I'll cut inland to Portland and either return to Seattle from there or, time permitting, head up the Olympic Peninsula to Port Townsend. Why do it? Why not? I'm not working at the moment. In fact I'm taking some time to re-assess the direction of my life and look at some of the ways I've been taking things for granted. For one thing, I've always carried a certain amount of fear about traveling. But I'm realizing that it's unnecessary - things generally work out. If you miss the train, there's another one. If you run out of gas somebody will come along eventually. And if you get on a motorcycle and set out solo through parts unknown you'll probably do just fine and perhaps get a little perspective on life in the process. Plus some great pictures. What's the site about? The initial purpose of this site is to provide a place to upload photos and stories from the road. I'm bringing a digital camera and laptop along so I can easily add photos as I go. Whether and how the site evolves as the trip goes on remains to be seen. I hope you enjoy the journey with me. Please feel free to email me - I will be checking and replying as often as possible.
